Young Achiever of the Year Adam Smith

8th February 2017

Congratulations to Lindum Assistant Quantity Surveyor (QS) Adam Smith who picked up the winner's award last night for Young Achiever of the Year at the Lincolnshire Construction & Property Awards.

The awards, hosted by Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce, attracted over 300 people to The Engine Shed in Lincoln where guests were entertained by TV star and property expert Charlie Luxton and the seven category winners for this the first Property and Construction Awards were announced.

Adam joined Lindum in 2014 as a trainee QS and spent his first year training with his mentor, experienced QS, Gary Price on the construction phase of various projects. After gaining a detailed understanding of the role Adam took on the job of Assistant QS in 2015 helping to deliver a multi-phased new build housing project and an office refurbishment.

Now working independently Adam is currently involved in three live projects - a new build development of 26 houses and two major refurbishment projects within a large retail park. Adam says “On reflection, during the two years I have been at Lindum the thing I am most proud of is being given the sole responsibility of managing the procurement for a construction project.  It shows I am learning the skills needed to succeed in my chosen profession.”

Study remains an important part of his continuing development, Adam has recently completed his HNC in Construction achieving a Distinction and qualified in the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) with a level 3 award which he did alongside other trainees at Lindum.

As a CITB Construction Ambassador Adam also represents Lindum at careers events and school/college visits and is an active member of the team when it comes to being involved in both social and corporate events organised by the company.

“Without the support and guidance I have received from my experienced colleagues at Lindum I would not have been able or confident to carry out the job I do now.  I am fortunate to be surrounded by great role models who give their time freely and take pleasure in sharing their knowledge with me. I hope that the publicity surrounding this award will encourage more young people to consider the many and varied careers offered within the construction sector and here at Lindum” explains Adam.
