Building companies give donation to Skegness lifeboat crew

8th November 2017

To mark the completion of LACE Housing’s retirement living development in Skegness, Lindum and two of its construction partners made a donation to the county’s lifeboat service in honour of a Lincolnshire man who dedicated his life to safety at sea.

Lindum teamed up with Buildbase and Nu-span to support the RNLI, following completion of the £2m Chapman Court project in Scarborough Avenue which offers 17 affordable retirement apartments and a holiday home for older people.

The complex was named in memory of long-serving RNLI member Ron Chapman, who served the town’s lifeboat for 39 years.

Lindum, builders merchant Buildbase and precast flooring provider Nu-span, decided to handover a cash donation to the charity following their involvement in the Chapman Court project.

Simon Gregory, managing director of Lindum Construction, said: “The RNLI provides a vital service for people who live on and visit the Lincolnshire coast.

“We are delighted to support its work and, along with our industry colleagues, feel privileged to hand over our donation in memory of Mr Chapman.”

The history of the Skegness lifeboat can be traced back to 1839. Today, the RNLI’s two lifeboats cover one of the country’s busiest beaches and surrounding areas.

RNLI coxswain at Skegness Richard Watson added: “This is a great honour for all of us at Skegness RNLI, Ron was a dedicated and loved member of our team, he served on 3 of our lifeboats and has guided and steered the development of countless other volunteers during and after his active service.

“The fact that that this new development has been named in his honour is a testament to this commitment and very fitting. We are all very proud to be associated with Ron and his memory.”

Ron’s son Ray accepted the cheque on behalf of the RNLI.
