St Katherines Church

The Priory Trust

This project involved the renovation of a Grade II heritage listed Victorian Church being transformed into a Heritage Museum.

The Priory Church of St Katherine's stands on the site of a medieval Gilbertine Priory in Lincoln and is now home to a heritage centre, cultural resource and education venue used by members of the wider community.

The 'transformation' included a complete re-roof, masonry repairs of the stone windows and parapets, stained glass window restoration and complete new windows along with extensive conservation and restoration of the existing internal architectural features (original ceramic tiling, plaster mouldings, pulpit and font). An additional feature was to display the remains of the 11th Century Gilbertine Monastery through a glass viewing panel in the floor.

Much of the timber restoration and repair works was carried out by our Lindum Joinery division, including the restoration of English Oak wall panelling and the manufacture of replica mouldings including ceiling cornices and architraves along with supplying new doors to match the originals, roof ties and corbel detailing.

Although the venue now offers modern facilities, including state of the art theatre lighting, all of the works carried out were sympathetic to the age and history of the building.
