EMH Housing & Regeneration Ltd

Built on a Greenfield site within the Peak District National Park, this design and build project comprises three pairs of semi-detached houses and two bungalows, offering a mix of affordable rent and shared ownership homes for local people resulting from a partnership between Peak District Rural Housing Association, Youlgrave Community Land Trust and EMH Group, with great support from Derbyshire Dales District Council.

To complement the existing properties, the new homes were built from local limestone and slate tiles, using traditional building methods. Innovative integrated photovoltaic panels were incorporated in the roofs, which harmonise with the natural slate providing green energy for the residents. The material selection and supply chain, including tradespeople, were sourced from the local area.

Situated within a close rural community where objections had been raised prior to construction starting. The Site Manager talked to local residents, many of whom were elderly, to understand their concerns, keep them regularly informed and establish good community relations which was endorsed by an ‘excellent score’ from the CCS for community relationships.

CfSH level 4 achieved with a community orchard, wild flower meadows and native trees planted to provide a well-structured and blended landscaping scheme, designed in consultation with the Peak District National Park Authority.
Winner of the Best Residential Development and the overall Best Construction Project in the fbe EM 2015 Awards.
