The construction of a new 5,000 ft sq store for Anglia Regional Co-Op commenced with the demolition of an existing garage and the removal of contaminated land.

The building shell consisted of a steel frame with composite cladding and brickwork to external elevations, cladding works were carried out by KGM Roofing, a division of the Lindum Group.

External works included the provision of parking areas in block paving and a concrete service yard. Beneath the parking area a storage system was required to attenuate the discharge of the surface water to public sewers.

In addition to the on-site works a programme of highway/footpath improvements were carried out off-site within Sawtry village to improve access to the new store.

The development was situated within a residential area on a relatively tight site, in view of this it was an essential requirement to keep local residents informed on what activities were being carried out throughout the whole construction process. This was achieved by an initial letter drop to give residents an overview of the scheme, plus ongoing regular meetings to ensure that disturbances were kept to a minimum.

The project was completed on time and on budget.
