Lucky 13 as Lindum in Top 100 List Companies again

The ‘Top 100 List’ was announced on Thursday (23rd February) night and Lindum Group was named as the 38th ‘Best Company To Work For in the UK’ - the thirteenth consecutive year Lindum has appeared in the best 100 companies list.

The prestigious award ceremony for ‘The Sunday Times Best 100 Companies to Work For’ was held at Battersea Evolution, London. Lindum employees were among the guests present as the rankings were unveiled and celebrated the Company’s impressive 38th ranking, being one of the top 40 companies in the UK to work for.

Simon Gregory, Lindum Group Director, said “This is the closest event we have to the Oscars as we know we are in the running but have no idea of the final position until it appears on the big screen. As the results are entirely dependent of the information supplied direct to Best Companies by our employees, we do not know how we have performed until the night. Being named as one of the top 100 companies to work for in the UK is impressive to say the least but as a construction company where many of our employees are working on building sites, during the winter months, when the survey takes place, it is even more refreshing.”

“This year is the thirteenth time we have been named in the ‘Top 100’ list and, with over 600 employees performing a diverse range of job roles, it is never something we take for granted. More important than the accolade Lindum receives is the information gathered from the anonymous employee questionnaires which helps us identify areas where we can improve, and there are usually lots!.”

The Sunday Times Best Companies to Work For’ lists are compiled based on research from the largest survey of its kind and measures things such as personal growth, wellbeing, giving something back, leadership and team spirit.

The 16 employees from across the Group were joined by three clients at the high profile awards evening: Jon Cocking (Homes), Roy Elsom (BMS), Simon Gregory (Construction), Joanne Holmes (Holdings), James Nellist (York), Ian Seymour (Plant), Sally Wells (KGM Roofing), Tony Clohesy (Construction), Dean Bower (JV), Sue Edser (Construction), Mark Foster (Homes), Dean Hanson (Holdings), Nicola Henson (Peterborough), Paddy McAuley (Peterborough), Jamie Osgodby (BMS) and David Sullivan (Waste).

Tony Clohesy, Site Manager with Lindum Construction since 2010 and Roy Elsom who joined Lindum as an apprentice joiner in 2004 and is now a Working Foreman for the BMS Team, were among those who attended the event.

Tony Clohesy said “I joined Lindum in 2010, after being made redundant by another construction company where I had worked for over 32 years. Shortly after starting work, I found myself in plaster for 8 weeks after rupturing my achilles tendon at a family event and, although still in the early part of my probationary period, Lindum supported me through my recovery without ado and back to work. From my earliest experience working for Lindum, it was evident that the company genuinely cares about its people and there is a ‘team work’ approach to doing the best job possible. With nearly forty years’ experience working within the construction industry, I have not come across a better company to work for.”    

Roy Elsom said “I started work for Lindum when I was 16, straight from school, as an apprentice joiner, following in my father’s footsteps, and now my father and other members of my family have joined me working for Lindum. After successfully serving my apprenticeship, I continued to work for the Building and Maintenance Team and was managing my first job when I was 21 years of age. I am now 29 and have been a Working Foreman for over 3 years. I like my job, the people I work with and the variety of projects and places Lindum provides - during my time here I have worked at Prisons, Schools, Offices, Hospitals and Churches to name but a few so I am always interested.”

Also in attendance were Paddy McAuley, Contracts Manager for Lindum in Peterborough and Sally Wells, PA to the MD and Office Manager for KGM Roofing.

Paddy worked for local construction company Sturgeon before it was purchased by Lindum in 1996 so has a long history with the company. Starting his career as a bricklayer, Paddy became Working Foreman with Sturgeon before being appointed as Small Works Manager and now Contracts Manager for Lindum in Peterborough.

Paddy McAuley said “I feel part of the foundations as I have been with the company since its conception here in Peterborough. I do remember has some apprehensions when it was announced that Lindum was to purchase Sturgeon who I worked for but my fears were soon allayed when I got to know how the company operated and I have not looked back since. Lindum is a great company to work for and I have recommended it to friends and family with both my son-in-law and grandson now working here! You are part of a team and your contribution is valued by all here. I can only praise Lindum for the support I have and continue to receive as a member of what we call the ‘Lindum Family’ and consider this national award for being a great company to work for truly deserved.”   

Sally Wells joined Lindum Group in 2012 when she took up her current role with the specialist roofing and cladding division based at the Peterborough Office, KGM Roofing. Sally explained “Since starting work for the company some four and a half years I have enjoyed every minute thanks to the variety of work, no day is ever the same, and also the great team of people we have here. Part of my role involves attending networking events and meetings with clients and other partner organisations and, not only am I honoured to represent the company, I am incredibly proud to be a shareholder.” 

The York Team was represented by James Nellist who started work for Lindum Construction in Lincoln in 2007 as a Quantity Surveyor and moved to the York Office as Managing Surveyor in 2015. 

James Nellist “During the ten years I have worked for Lindum, I have found that the company to be supportive, in particular, flexibility around the demands of having a young family, has been very much appreciated and also the encouragement I have received from senior managers, in helping me progress my own career within the company, has been excellent. Since joining the York Office, as a senior member of the management team, I have welcomed the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of the entire business operation and I am enjoying the wider responsibilities of my role and the contribution I can make to the success of company for all of us and our clients. We have a great team here at Lindum and I am very proud to be a member of it.”       

Jonathan Austin, CEO and Founder of Best Companies, added “I would like to congratulate Lindum on their outstanding achievement. Lindum should be extremely proud of their achievement and the fact that their employees think Lindum Group is such a fantastic place to work.”
