New M&S Foodhall opens for business

29th November 2017

The first customers have been served at Lincoln’s new M&S foodhall, which was built by teams from Lindum Construction and KGM Roofing.

Ribbons were cut on the new building in Tritton Road at 10am today (November 29) and delighted store staff welcomed shoppers with glasses of fizz as they walked through the doors.

Work on the new two-storey, 11,000 sq. ft. unit at the rear of Moorland Centre Retail Park began in April, when the concrete foundations were poured.

Since then, construction teams have been onsite to ensure the unit and its 270-space car park were completed on time and on budget.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Simon Layton, head of the region for M&S, said he was really pleased with the final result.

“Tritton Road is an out of town retail epicentre and we feel this new store complements what we already offer in the High Street,” he said.

“We are so happy to be in and so far customer feedback has been really positive.

“It has been one of the smoothest store openings I’ve ever been involved with – from handover to opening. We’ve been really delighted.”

Meanwhile store manager Dan Ward added: “The whole team are really thrilled to be opening the store today.

“Lincoln as a city is exciting at the moment and to open a food hall here – particularly so close to Christmas - is brilliant for us.

“As the building was going up, we used to drive by and take photographs and share them on the staff WhatsApp group. We were all really excited to watch it develop.

“Our project managers were really impressed with the quality of the building when it was passed over.”

The new M&S Foodhall employs 68 people and features a bakery as well as 26-seat café serving a number of light bites and drinks.

MD of Lindum Construction, Simon Gregory, said: “We are really pleased to have been involved in the redevelopment work at the Moorland Centre for our client the Lincolnshire Co-op.

“To see the store and the refreshed carpark open in time for the Christmas trade is a credit to the hard work of everyone involved.”

Once the ribbon cutting ceremony was over, Jess Sylvester, section manager at the Lincoln store, said the opening day had been brilliant.

“You can sense that the customers are really loving the store and the weather hasn’t put people off coming,” she said.

“The M&S brand speaks for itself but I think we’ve set the bar even higher with this store.

“It is such an exciting time to be opening a store and the lay out here is very customer friendly.

“The building is great. The finish is amazing and we were blown away when we first saw it.”
