New homes to be built in Saxilby for over 55s

1st August 2018

Work to build a complex of new homes for people aged 55 and over has begun in a village near Lincoln.
Lindum Construction is building 50 bungalows and ten flats on land off Church Lane in Saxilby, on behalf of Gainsborough-based housing provider Acis.

The start of construction work was marked with an official turning of the turf ceremony at the site on Tuesday, July 31.

Representatives from Lindum, Acis and West Lindsey District Council joined guests at the event to hear how the development will provide high-quality, independent living space which will go towards meeting the needs of Lincolnshire’s aging population.

Greg Bacon, Acis Chief Executive, said: “We’re delighted to be extending our footprint in Saxilby by bringing more affordable homes to the village.

“We understand people have different needs so are committed to providing a range of different tenure options, including our popular shared ownership model.”

The complex will include 20 homes for private sale, 20 for sale on a shared ownership basis and 20 for affordable rent.

Cllr David Cotton, ward member for Saxilby welcomed the news of work starting.

He said: “We are pleased to see the development commence as it supports west Lindsey District Council’s Growth agenda. The Acis scheme will provide much needed retirement accommodation, both market and affordable, for over 55 year olds.”

The first properties are expected to be ready at the start of 2019.

MD of Lindum Construction, Simon Gregory, said: “We are very pleased at Lindum to be embarking on another construction project with Acis Group, which is a repeat and valued client.

“As a local building company, which has a local workforce, we are delighted to be part of a development that is bringing much-needed, good quality homes to the thriving village of Saxilby.”

In addition to the 60 homes for over 55s, residential housing division Lindum Homes will also be building a selection of properties.

Land and Planning Manager for Lindum Homes, Mark Foster said “The market housing will be on land adjacent to the Acis development and includes a mix of two, three, four and five-bedroomed homes, which will be offered for private market sale.

“The first phase of the market houses has now been released and can be viewed on our dedicated market housing website www.lindumhomes.co.uk."

The ceremony was held following seven months of land preparation work at the site.

Lindum’s Plant division worked with subcontractors to strip the land and to lay the base of the new roads.

General Manager of Lindum Plant, Edward Chambers said: “This project saw us make use of our own new GPS-enabled 22 tonne excavator, one of over 200 large plant assets we own that enables us to react quickly and effectively to client requirements.

“The GPS helped us reduce setting out time therefore completing earthworks quicker and resulting in lower costs.”
