New drone photographs show how work is progressing on a £9.3 million state-of-the-art care complex in Cambridgeshire.
The images, taken by Peterborough construction company Lindum, show the scale of the new Extra Care apartments in the town of Whittlesey.
Willow Court is due for completion in December 2019 and is being delivered by Peterborough-based Axiom Housing Association – part of Longhurst Group.
When finished, it will offer 47 one-bedroom apartments and 13 two-bedroom properties for the elderly, as well as a residents’ lounge, restaurant, hair salon and therapy room, micro-shop and communal gardens.
The development has received support from Cambridgeshire County Council, Fenland District Council and Homes England, which has provided £3.6m of funding.
Lindum project manager Richard Maryon said: “We have a number of Lindum employees working on the site, alongside a range of local contractors and some local apprentices.
“Work is progressing well, with the first roof trusses due to go up on Monday, February 18. Provided the weather is kind to us, we should be well on track for completion by the end of the year.”
Speaking at the start of the building project, Louise Platt, Longhurst Group’s Executive Director of Care and Business Partnerships, said: “Willow Court will significantly improve the lives of elderly people in the local community, one in seven of whom are currently struggling to access the social care that they need because of their rural location and the lack of this kind of facility.
“It’s an ambitious project of 60 apartments, but the key criteria is that it will be affordable. It will be a fully-rented scheme, which is becoming a rarer commodity in today’s market, and I think it’s going to be a real asset to the area.”
