Rufford Primary School - SCAPE RCF
Nottingham City Council
Lindum completed reconfiguration works at Rufford Primary School to create a new teaching office and hygiene rooms.
To minimise disruption to the school, the works were carried out during the school’s summer holiday period. Part of the works was the survey and removal of asbestos (which can be quite hazardous), therefore it was imperative to complete these works without the risk of school children around. Other works included installation of a new fire alarm system. To make sure programme deadlines were met, we worked seven days a week on extended hours.
We also undertook part renewal of flat roof and rooflights. These roofing works were carried out during the school term time with deliveries restricted to avoid times when children would be accessing the school premises. We remained in regular dialogue with the school facilities team, making sure the work did not affect the day-to-day operation of the school.
The project provided opportunities for the local supply chain. Four micro-businesses were employed with 57% of the project spend remaining within 20 miles of the project site. We also engaged with East Midlands Wood Recycling, a social enterprise which employs individuals from disadvantaged groups. They removed waste wood from site and crafted a children’s ‘mud kitchen’ which was donated to the school.
