Wetherby Racecourse Grandstand

Wetherby Steeplechase Committee Ltd

Following on from successful projects at York Racecourse, Lindum used its industry knowledge to secure this project at Wetherby. The works included demolition of the existing members stand, and subsequent construction of the new five storey Millennium West building, linked to the adjacent building on four levels.

The project took less than 12 months to complete from de-commissioning and demolition of the existing grandstand in July 2016 to handing over keys to the new building in April 2017. Experience of working around the racing calendar ensured racegoers could enjoy their day out without being disturbed by construction activities.

The ground floor of the new structure is home to the Henry Crossley Bar, a coffee lounge and a Betfred shop. Racegoers can access the suite from multiple entrances that open up directly into the Paddock and Betting Ring and there is also an internal entrance from the Millennium Stand for Premier Racegoers.

The first floor – the Riston Suite – offers fantastic views across the Parade Ring, Racetrack and Finish Post. It can be accessed internally from the Millennium Stand or via the new Millennium West stair tower, which also provides lift access.

The second floor is home to the Racecourse’s ‘1891’ Bar, which is open to Premier racegoers, while the third and fourth floor consists of a prefabricated building, which was fixed to the steel frame, and is home to the photo finish camera and commentary boxes.
