Lindum constructed a new two-storey Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) adjacent to Oxclose Lane Police Station in Nottingham, providing a safe and supportive environment for individuals over 18 who have experienced sexual abuse or violence.

Known as the Topaz Centre, the building is designed to feel welcoming and non-clinical, resembling a residential property with individual gardens. It includes forensic medical rooms for specialist examinations, private meeting spaces for support services and office accommodation for staff and partner agencies

Lindum joined the project at RIBA Stage 4 following a competitive tender, working closely with the client’s design team to resolve ducting and service clashes. The build also involved:

  • Foundation and drainage solutions
  • Asbestos removal
  • Installation of energy-efficient systems, including an air source heat pump and solar PVs
  • Security measures, such as fire alarms, panic alarms, lighting, and CCTV

With a tight site next to a busy police station, careful coordination was key. Our team engaged with local residents, bus companies, and police to manage construction impact and maintained site access by implementing alternative routes during road closures.

The Topaz Centre was successfully delivered as a secure, high-quality facility that enhances specialist support services in Nottingham.
