Rick joined Lindum in 1988, on the Government Youth Training Scheme aged just 18.

He trained as a joiner and completed an apprenticeship through Lincoln College before working in the joinery workshop with a team of experienced craftsmen for six years.

Richard then moved to our BMS team looking at maintenance and projects up to £2m in value, where he worked across a variety of roles including Site Foreman and Contracts Manager.

Rick took over as Managing Director of BMS in 2020, where he manages the team of c. 120 colleagues, and in 2024 he was appointed to the Group’s Executive Board to take on wider strategic responsibilities (whilst retaining his MD role).

“When I joined the company, I didn’t ever think I would be here all these years later. But the support and training that I’ve been given has allowed me to enjoy a varied and fulfilling career. I didn’t know for sure I’d even get the job as I failed woodwork at school!”

I am currently on a two year Level 3 apprenticeship in bench joinery. I was offered the job after completing a week’s work experience in the workshop.

I studied joinery at Lincoln College for two years before I started here and I will be return to the classroom regularly to complement my practical work with theory.

So far I am really enjoying my training and I’m delighted to have secured a formal apprenticeship.

I work in Lindum’s Plant division as an Apprentice mechanic, working on the servicing of a range of vehicles, general repairs, and have even been able to work on the electronics in police cars.

I’ve always had a passion for engineering, as I would often work on cars with my grandad in his garage, so when my tutor told me about Lindum’s opening, I applied the same day.

This apprenticeship has allowed me to log more on the job hours than anyone else in my class.
