Project Overview
Lindum completed a 3,600 square metre extension to the Head Office home of specialist e-commerce and distribution company, Hemingways.
Our York division added 1,800m2 of warehouse space to the company’s existing site on the Barker Business Park, near the village of Melmerby in Ripon.
We also completed a two-storey, high-spec office extension to the northern end of the building.
All the work was completed while the business existing unit remained open and operational.
Hemingways is a specialist e-commerce, sales and distribution company, representing a wide range of major UK and international brands, promoting and selling their products
Its operations include corporate and consumer gift sales for Mondelēz confectionery brands including Cadbury; white label gift card and pre-pay solutions for more than 60 major UK and international retailers; and technology platforms used by some of the world’s biggest retail brands.
The extension was a steel portal frame construction, with a red brick masonry and cladded exterior to match the existing unit and surrounding business park, and a new feature entrance way and balcony.
The warehouse space offers an FM2 floor slab suitable for full height racking, and also incorporates 5m roller shutter doors to the the existing unit as well as the external concrete yard. Access is also achieved via two dock levellers set within precast retaining walls offering level access for deliveries straight into the new warehouse space, a key new addition to the distribution side of the business.
The office accommodation has been completed to a high end bespoke finish, offering working office space with raised access flooring, meeting rooms, private offices and access to the feature glazed balcony overlooking the new car park and landscaping.
The internal finishes involve exposed ceilings, a bespoke joinery and architectural metalwork stair case, integrated seating booths and glazed meeting areas, all set around a double height atrium with mezzanine seating and ramped access into the existing office accommodation.
Hemingways is recognised as one of the fastest growing private companies in the North and has had a presence at the Barker Business Park for more than 20 years.
Managing Director Andrew Johnson said, “This development represents our company’s largest single capital investment and supports our ambitious growth plans as we move into our second century of trading.
“The new facility will provide much increased capacity whilst offering our employees a modern, contemporary and attractive working environment. We were delighted to work with Lindum on this project.”
