Project Overview
Lindum successfully delivered a major redevelopment project at Teesside Shopping Park, transforming four separate retail units into a single, modern retail space.
The project facilitated the opening of a new 40,000 sq. ft Sports Direct megastore, which now houses dedicated areas for GAME, USC, and Evans Cycles.
The works were completed in a live retail environment, requiring careful coordination to minimise disruption. The project included:
- Installation of temporary hoarding and pedestrian water barriers to ensure public safety.
- Comprehensive refurbishment and demolition survey.
- Demolition of internal walls, mezzanines, fixtures, and fittings.
- Removal of the front façade, canopy, and bullnose.
- Structural alterations, including steelwork modifications and installation of new glazing.
- Façade enhancements with new cladding, ceramic rainscreen, and architectural louvres.
- Roof and rear cladding refurbishment.
- Construction of a new mezzanine floor, including foundations, steelwork, and fire protection.
- Installation of new lift and escalator pits.
- Mechanical and electrical works to accommodate the upgraded retail space.
- Significant incoming services upgrades
- Full internal and external snagging and cleaning upon completion.
Working within an operational shopping park required careful planning to ensure minimal disruption to neighbouring businesses and shoppers. Lindum implemented phased construction schedules, clear signage, and rigorous site management to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
The completion of the project enabled Sports Direct to expand its presence at Teesside Shopping Park, offering customers a significantly enhanced shopping experience. The larger store supports Frasers Group’s retail modernisation strategy and brings premium sportswear brands such as Adidas, Nike, The North Face, and Under Armour to local shoppers.
Centre Director at Teesside Park, Catherine Furlong, commented: “The store has always been incredibly popular, and this expansion meets the continued demand for top sportswear brands.”
