Project Overview
Lindum was commissioned to build plinths for three new Retort ovens at Nestle Purina Petcare’s wet food manufacturing site in Wisbech. The project demanded a carefully phased approach to ensure the live factory’s production lines continued running without disruption.
The project was divided into clear phases over five months, ensuring work could progress without halting factory operations.
To remove the existing ovens, we carefully removed cladding and brickwork to create a precise opening in the side of the building.
A pod was constructed around the opening with airtight seals, protecting the site from weather conditions and preventing any dust contamination within the factory.
The Retort equipment was installed by the machine operator, with our team executing the necessary construction work. Close collaboration with the machine operator ensured alignment of our construction programme with the installation of the Retort equipment.
After a successful bedding-in period of four to six weeks, we provided a permanent fix to the wall opening. This process was meticulously repeated for each of the three machines.
All construction tasks were completed by Lindum’s skilled in-house trade operatives, leveraging expertise across various disciplines including joinery, groundworks, bricklaying, decorating, plastering, and multi-skilled work.
Following the successful Retort oven installation, further improvements were made to enhance the facility’s functionality, including a £7K project to renew the degraded drains of the 1960s site and transformation of a reception area into a ladies’ welfare and changing facility, completed with a £5K investment.
Lindum successfully delivered a complex, phased construction project while ensuring the continuous operation of Nestle Purina Petcare’s production lines. This project highlights our ability to manage intricate logistics, maintain strict safety protocols, and work collaboratively with our clients to achieve lasting, quality results.
