Housing provider Longhurst Group and Lindum are seeking permission for 18 homes on land south of Vasey Close in Bassingham.

It comes after an earlier application for 23 houses was refused by planning officers.

The revised application on the 2.23 acre site is made by Lindum on behalf of Longhurst Group which would operate the residential proposals as a solely affordable scheme.

The proposal is to provide 18 units of timber frame construction in scale with the surrounding area; the units boast internal and external spaces of high quality for future residents of the scheme. Expansion space for the Bassingham Surgery is also provided as part of the application.

The development includes a mix of dwellings including one and two bed bungalows, as well as two and three bed houses, most of which are semidetached. Each dwelling will have its own individual garden space and appropriate private parking provision in what will be a high quality housing development.

Lindum Land and Planning Manager Robert Jays said: “This application is considerate of, and responds well to, the points raised in the previous planning refusal.

“We have moved the scheme west, so it is better connected to the built form of Bassingham. We have also included some land in the application to be dedicated to the doctor’s surgery for future expansion and also included land to provide Biodiversity Net Gain.

“The proposed development will make a much-needed contribution towards the affordable housing provision in Bassingham. We believe the benefits of the scheme far outweigh any potential negatives and hope planning permission for the proposals will be supported.”

The joint applicants, Longhurst Group, are a leading house provider and have considerable experience in providing high quality developments in the Midlands and east of England. As demonstrated by previous affordable units in the area, the proposed affordable housing scheme will positively contribute towards the local economy and help enable social progression.

The application proposals are a direct result of continued positive discussions with Bassingham Parish Council regarding the provision of affordable housing in the village, including an initial approach from the Parish Council to the Lindum Group.

The Parish Council continue to be in support of the revised planning application proposals and have engaged in a positive and supporting way with the Lindum throughout both applications.

The high-quality scheme presented is policy compliant, meets a local need, is supported by the Parish Council and the Local Community, and will contribute positively to the local area.
