A new Lindum-built college extension has been officially opened in North Lincolnshire.

The formal unveiling of a three-story Teaching and Learning Centre took place at John Leggott College in Scunthorpe.

Guests were given a tour of the extension and told how its state-of-the-art facilities had been designed to support students’ learning.

Its cutting-edge features include the latest educational technology, interactive smartboards, collaborative workstations, and high-speed internet.

The college said the new building will prepare students for the digital demands of the modern workforce while providing teachers with access to modern pedagogical tools that allow them to create “dynamic and interactive lessons”.

At the ceremony, Principal Leon Riley said: “We are thrilled to introduce this innovative Teaching and Learning Centre, which reflects our commitment to excellence in education.

“This centre will empower our students to reach their full potential and equip our educators with the tools they need to deliver transformative teaching.”

Lindum was appointed to the project at RIBA stage 4 but worked with the client to amend the design, making it cheaper to build and cheaper to run.

Changes included adding smaller Air Handling Units in each classroom, meaning they could be warmed and cooled as needed, without impacting the rest of the building.

Former John Leggott College pupils, Laura and Emma, were invited to cut the ribbon to celebrate their involvement in the development as steel contractors from North Lincs Structures.

Lindum MD Edward Chambers said: “It is wonderful to see these classrooms in use and to hear how much of an impact the new learning environment is having on education at JLC.

“The teachers I met were passionate about how the classrooms enhance lessons, specifically the natural light that floods in from the large windows and the air conditioning, which allows for isolated temperature control in individual rooms.

“Lindum worked closely with suppliers and subcontractors across Greater Lincolnshire to deliver this project and it was lovely to see that the steel contractors, who are former pupils of the college, were invited back to officially cut the ribbon.”
