Lindum’s Plant Division will join industry leaders at this year’s PlantWorx exhibition, taking part in the inaugural Rethinking Futures initiative designed to inspire the next generation of construction and engineering talent.
The three-day event takes place from 23rd to 25th September at Newark Showground and is expected to attract more than 400 exhibitors, thousands of visitors, and hundreds of young people keen to explore opportunities in the sector.
As part of the Rethinking Futures arena, based in the Lady Eastwood Pavilion, our Plant team will exhibit alongside the RAF, North Notts College, JCB, Amey and others.
More than 600 secondary school and college students are already signed up to attend over the first two days, with activities designed to showcase careers in construction, engineering and mechanics.
Day one will see around 200 students take part in a practical engineering challenge, where teams design, build and test machinery inspired by grab lorries, excavators and cranes. Their projects will be judged by experts from across the industry, with winners announced at the end of the day.
Day two will focus on careers, and Lindum employees will be talking to young people to highlight pathways into apprenticeships, training and employment.
Day three will welcome primary school pupils, who will explore the main PlantWorx exhibition and see live demonstrations of large machinery.
The initiative aims to address the industry’s skills gap by connecting schools and colleges with employers, training providers and sector specialists. Students will gain hands-on experience, meet potential employers and see how their classroom learning can be applied to real-world careers.
Lindum Plant Hire Manager Abigail Shaw said: “We are really looking forward to being part of Rethinking Futures at PlantWorx. For us, it’s about showing young people the variety of opportunities available in construction and engineering and hopefully sparking an interest that could lead to a rewarding career.
“It’s also a chance for Lindum Plant to connect with clients and potential clients and raise awareness of the services we offer locally. Supporting events like this is a vital part of helping to build the industry’s future workforce.”
PlantWorx, which runs every two years, is the UK’s largest live-action construction equipment exhibition and will feature cutting-edge technologies, interactive zones, and demonstrations from leading manufacturers.
By taking part in Rethinking Futures, Lindum is proud to support a movement that bridges the gap between education and industry, while also strengthening its relationships with local schools, councils and the Newark Showground.
