Lindum has successfully delivered a modern new teaching block at Franklin Sixth Form College in Grimsby, providing enhanced facilities for students, staff, and the wider community.
The development features eight state-of-the-art classrooms, a 160-seat lecture theatre named The Chelmsford Suite, and a new main entrance and reception area, which includes a desk crafted by Lindum Joinery. The project was jointly funded by the Franklin College Trust and the Department for Education.

Lindum took over the project after previous construction worked stopped, working closely with the college and project partners to safely restart and complete the build. The expansion marks a significant milestone in the college’s 35-year history, supporting its vision to provide outstanding opportunities and life chances for the local community.
The new facilities were officially opened by Great Grimsby and Cleethorpes MP Melanie Onn, alongside Alex Baxter, Chair of the Franklin College Trust, and Wendy Ellis, Principal and CEO of Franklin Sixth Form College. Over 60 project partners joined the celebration to explore the new spaces.
Wendy Ellis said: “I am deeply proud to celebrate completion of the new building which will further enhance and support our education environment and learning culture. The College is a truly outstanding, high-performance organisation, supported by an inclusive culture where students thrive and achieve.”
Alex Baxter added: “The opening of this building marks an exciting new chapter for Franklin as we continue to grow, inspire, and provide outstanding opportunities for our students.”
Melanie Onn, a former student of the college, praised the development, saying: “The change is immense. If I was a student coming now, I would be absolutely delighted. I’m always proud to be a former student of Franklin College, but even more so now.”
Lindum Construction Manager Mark Robertson added: “We are delighted to have completed this significant project. Our team worked hard to ensure the build progressed smoothly once activity resumed on site, and it’s fantastic to see the college now able to make full use of these impressive new spaces.”
