Lindum was appointed by South Kesteven District Council (SKDC) to design and build a new operational depot in Grantham, replacing an outdated facility with a modern base to support frontline services across the district.

The £7.65 million development brings together waste collection, street cleansing, parks maintenance, housing repairs and vehicle fleet maintenance within a purpose-built facility, creating a more efficient working environment for council teams.

Working collaboratively with SKDC throughout pre-construction, we refined the design to ensure the project met the available budget without compromising quality or performance. Through a series of value engineering workshops and detailed design reviews, almost £950,000 of savings were achieved while maintaining the functionality and long-term durability of the development.

Our team also worked closely with depot operatives, using their feedback to shape the layout of workshops, storage areas and operational spaces, ensuring the finished building meets the day-to-day needs of the people who use it.

The project presented a number of site challenges, including sloping ground conditions, which were overcome through careful planning and design. Throughout the project, our collaborative approach and BIM processes helped coordinate the design team, consultants and supply chain, supporting efficient delivery from start to finish.

Sustainability was a key focus, with the completed depot achieving an EPC A rating and incorporating a roof-mounted solar PV system. Design refinements also reduced material use, while 100% of construction waste was recycled through our PAS 402 certified recycling facility.

Completed on time and within budget, the new depot provides South Kesteven District Council with a modern, sustainable and efficient operational hub, supporting the delivery of essential services for the local community for years to come.
