Children in Lincoln have the world at their feet thanks to a new art installation at their secondary school.
A satellite image of Earth has been positioned outside The Priory Academy LSST’s Geography block at its site on Cross O’Cliff Hill.
It was paid for by Lindum Group as part of ongoing refurbishment work at the academy and replaced a similar image which had been in place for more than a decade.
While Lindum came up with the concept, the final image was produced and installed by a “˜not-for-profit’ business called Nuneaton Signs.
Academy Headteacher Jane Hopkinson said: “Our staff and students all think the new artwork is out of this world and we’re hugely grateful to Lindum and Nuneaton Signs for putting the whole project together.”
Improvement and maintenance work is being carried out at the academy by Lindum’s BMS division. The contract was awarded through the Scape Regional Construction framework.
All work procured through this framework is required to include added “˜social value’. In other words, it must leave a legacy beyond completion of the project.
This could be by providing items such as bench seating, bike shelters or art installations like this. Or it could be in the form of economic benefits such as training provided during the project, elements of career advice for students or the number of apprenticeships created during the construction process.
Lindum has a long history of working with charity and not-for-profit organisations which strive to create positive social change.
Nuneaton Signs provides employment to disabled people and 29 of its employees either have a physical disability or a mental health condition. Its skilled supervisors support, develop and mentor these individuals to help them sustain mainstream employment whilst improving lifestyles.
