A cake sale at Elvington Church of England Primary School has raised £275 to help buy new reading books for pupils.
The event was organised by Elvington-based construction company Lindum York and was held to mark the completion of the school’s kitchen refurbishment.
School catering staff baked 300 cupcakes, which Year 5 and 6 pupils decorated with construction-themed designs before selling them to families after school.

Lindum, which carried out the upgrade work on behalf of City of York Council, supplied the baking ingredients and the decorations for the cakes.
Guests included Martin Kelly OBE, the council’s Corporate Director of Children and Education, and Councillor Bob Webb, Executive Member for Children, Young People and Education. They met pupils and staff, spoke with the Lindum team and joined in with the cake-decorating activity.
Lindum York secured the refurbishment project at Elvington Primary School through a competitive tender process with the council and says it was delighted to work with the authority on a scheme located right on the doorstep of its York office.
Managing Director James Nellist said: “This event highlights what can be achieved when local businesses and schools come together. Delivering improvements for Elvington Primary and contributing to the school community reinforces the value of working closely with our neighbours.
“As a company, we always aim to be a good neighbour and to play an active role in the communities where we work, leaving a positive legacy that goes beyond the construction itself.”
Headteacher Andrew Buttery added: “I would like to thank Lindum for their generous support of our bake sale. We were delighted to welcome Martin Kelly OBE and Councillor Bob Webb. Their visit provided them with a wonderful insight into what makes Elvington such a special school.
“I am also extremely grateful to our parents and carers for their continued support, and to our talented Year 5/6 children, who did a fantastic job decorating the buns and helping to make the event such a success.”
