Expert roofing company KGM has been appointed to work on a new £14.2m building for a primary school in an expanding Cambridgeshire town.
The Peterborough-based company, which is part of Lindum Group, is installing the roof on the new building for Wintringham Primary Academy, which sits at the heart of developer Urban&Civic’s 162 hectare development in St Neots.
KGM, which is based on the Lindum Business Park in Newark Road, was awarded the work by main contractor Morgan Sindall Construction.
KGM MD Jason Harvey said: “This project will involve rolling 75 metre-long aluminium roofing sheets onto the new timber-built structure.
“We are using aluminium rather than traditional steel as it will give an alternative look and provide additional longevity.
“The finished building will look fantastic and we are really pleased to be a part of this project. It is our first contract with Morgan Sindall Construction and we hope it will be the start of a solid working relationship.
“We started on site in December and will be there until March.”
The new school was designed by RIBA Stirling Prize-winning architects dRMM. It will include a woodland grove at its centre that dRMM said “˜embodies the ethos of the academy’.
In addition, its slender, curved roof will offer shade and protection to outdoor learning spaces.
Wintringham Primary Academy, which opened in September 2018, is managed by the Diamond Learning Partnership Trust along with the Round House Primary Academy at Loves Farm, where the school is currently based. The new school building will provide places for just over 700 pupils aged three to 11.

Urban&Civic’s sustainable development will include 2,800 homes and a range of community and sports facilities, health and green space. The primary school’s location was designed to ensure it played a central role for new families within the first phase of the development. A second primary school is planned for later in the development.
KGM is part of the Lindum Group, which is an employee-owned construction business founded in Lincoln in 1956. KGM is one of 12 divisions and specialises in roofing and cladding. It works on Lindum construction projects as well as completing contracts for external clients.
