A Lindum apprentice is to compete in the national finals of a bricklaying competition after her victory in the regional heats.
Bella Bogg, 18, won the Senior category for her age group at the Guild of Bricklayers’ contest at Nottingham College.
Each competitor was given a brief and drawings to work from and asked to build a model featuring decorative brickwork.
Bella demonstrated her skill and dedication by successfully completing the challenge within the six-hour timeframe.
She said: “I felt a little overwhelmed by the task to begin with, but I soon got into the swing, and I was all right.
“I’ve only been at Lindum for nine months and it’s good to take part in these things.
“It shows that I’m learning so much from my mentors – they have helped me loads.”
Bella joined Lindum in 2024 and is gaining practical experience at Lindum Homes sites including Waddington and Welton.
She trains at Lincoln College, which recommended her participation in the competition.
Mark Snell, Curriculum Lead in Plumbing and Brickwork at Lincoln College, said: “We recognised that Bella had reached a stage in her development where her technical skill and dedication set her apart.
“While several students showed promise, Bella demonstrated the most advanced ability, and we believed that entering this competition would not only showcase her talent but also build her confidence.
“We are incredibly proud that she won first place at the recent Nottingham College event, competing against top apprentice bricklayers from across the East Midlands and Lincolnshire.
“Despite some early nerves, Bella quickly found her rhythm and delivered a high-quality piece of work. Her success is well deserved, and we’re thrilled she’s now progressing to the national finals in Sunderland.”
Jon Levey, Lindum Group Apprentice Manager, said: “Nine months ago, Bella embarked on her journey with us as a first year apprentice.
“Now she’s celebrating a well-deserved win at a regional competition in bricklaying.
“We couldn’t be prouder of her dedication, skill and passion. Stories like hers are exactly why we continue to invest deeply in apprenticeships, nurturing the talented people who will shape the future of our industry and communities.”
Matthew Hydes, Contracts Manager, Lindum Homes, said: “At Lindum, it is always important that we share and celebrate all the successes of our people, so I’m pleased to see Bella doing so well. Congratulations.”
Rob Moore, Nottingham College Head of Faculty – Construction, said: “As the region’s leading provider of construction training, we were proud to host the prestigious Guild of Bricklayers competition at our newly opened Construction Skills Centre.
“With space for 140 bricklaying bays, our state-of-the-art workshop provided the perfect setting for these talented young bricklayers to demonstrate their craft. It was inspiring to witness such skill, focus, and determination on display. Congratulations to all the winners and runners-up – their hard work truly stood out in a fiercely competitive field.”
