As Lindum celebrates National Apprenticeship Week 2025, we are shining a light on the important value we place on our practical trades apprentices.

Joe Brennan, 17, from Lincoln, has worked on two house building projects since starting his bricklaying apprenticeship with Lindum.

He said: “I did a Level 1 bricklaying course after leaving school and I wanted an apprenticeship.

“I wrote a letter to Lindum asking about opportunities and I was invited to the office for a meeting with the Group Apprentice Manager John Levey.

“My application was successful and I started as an apprentice last summer.

“At this early stage of my construction career, it’s about learning all that I can and gaining as much experience as possible.

“So far, I’ve worked on our housebuilding site in Hermit Street, Lincoln, I’m currently our housing site in Bolsover and I will be attending block weeks at college to complete further technical and practical courses.”

He added: “Lindum is not just a workplace; it’s like a family. You can speak to anyone, and you feel very welcome and supported at work.

“It is very satisfying to think I can come back to a site in a few years’ time and say: ‘I built that.’.”

         Apprentice Sam Wright

Fellow apprentice bricklayer Sam Wright, 20, also from Lincoln, applied to work at Lindum, and began his apprenticeship in summer 2022 after a successful interview.

Having reached the final stage of his apprenticeship, he has gained lots of on-site experience and completed block release at Lincoln College.

Sam, who is working with Joe at our 58-dwellings Forge New Homes site in Bolsover, said: “Lindum is a decent place to work.

“I like that I get paid weekly, everyone is sound and I’m learning a lot along the way.”

Andy Beattie, Managing Director at Forge New Homes, said: “Forge is committed to supporting the next generation – working in local communities, with local communities, so it’s great to see up and coming local talent getting experience and helping us create the homes of the future.”

Lindum currently has 19 apprentices across the business in the trades, human resources, administration, mechanics, departmental management and higher degree apprenticeships.

John Levey, Lindum Group Apprentice Manager, said: “Apprenticeships are a fantastic way of future proofing roles in the business, whether that be in growing talent or upskilling existing employees.

“They bring a fresh perspective, and in doing so, we want to support, progress and continue to develop their skills.”

National Apprentice Week runs from February 10 to 14.
