Lindum has begun construction of 58 sustainable and energy efficient new homes for affordable rent, social and shared ownership at Saxon Fields, Amotherby, North Yorkshire.

The Yorkshire Housing development is a mix of two, three and four-bedroom houses and bungalows.

Lindum is building the properties using timber frames and every home will include solar panels, heat pumps, underfloor heating on the ground floor and electric car chargers.

These features go beyond building regulations to create sustainable, energy-efficient homes for Yorkshire Housing’s customers.

Anthony Askew, Head of Construction at Yorkshire Housing, said: “Seeing the progress at Amotherby has been fantastic!

“It’s a great example of teamwork between Yorkshire Housing and our construction partner Lindum.

“This development is on track to be our second gas-free site, using modern construction methods and renewable technology to create warm, efficient homes that are better for people and the planet.

“This is all part of Yorkshire Housing’s journey to net-zero, which is driving innovation in how we build homes across the region.

“Amotherby is proof that we can build high-quality homes without relying on gas. We’re really looking forward to seeing how it progresses over the next few months.”

Lindum is placing carbon reduction at the heart of its delivery of the works, through local workforce and subcontractor employment, sustainably sourced materials and van sharing.

The contractor is also trialling an off-grid Hussh Pod generator on site, which harnesses hybrid battery power with renewable energy, meaning silent running, reduced emissions and fuel savings.

James Nellist, Lindum York Managing Director, said: “As a local York-based contractor employing local supply chain partners and our own directly employed labour on our projects, we are delighted to have started this very important development for the area.

“Affordable housing is one of the key issues we are facing nationally, so it is significant that we can deliver these homes to do our bit to help support our local communities.

“We have a fantastic team working on this site to produce the best quality, efficient homes, for those looking to get on the property ladder or looking for affordable rent.”

Saxon Fields is due for completion in early 2027.
