Lindum Group has joined partners and stakeholders to celebrate a key milestone in the construction of the College of West Anglia’s new £4million Green Skills Academy in Wisbech.

A traditional topping-out ceremony was held this week to mark the completion of the building’s structure, which will soon house state-of-the-art facilities dedicated to training the next generation of workers in green skills and renewable technologies.

Lindum is delivering the build on behalf of the College of West Anglia, supported by funding from Anglian Water Alliances and the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority.

The new academy is being constructed with sustainability at its core. The building itself incorporates an air source heat pump and 159m² of solar photovoltaic panels with battery storage, ensuring it will not only provide practical teaching opportunities but also embody the principles of low-carbon construction.

Once open, the facility will offer training in areas such as sustainable construction, electric vehicles, renewables, carbon literacy, and carbon management. It is expected to support up to 900 learners over the next 20 years while also helping regional employers meet the growing demand for net-zero skills.

Lindum Managing Director Darren King said: “We are delighted to be working with the College of West Anglia and its partners to deliver such a forward-thinking facility. The Green Skills Academy will play a vital role in equipping people across the region with the knowledge and expertise needed for a more sustainable future.

“This is a fantastic example of collaboration and investment in both people and place, and it’s exciting for our team to be part of bringing it to life.”

The topping-out ceremony was attended by representatives from the College of West Anglia, Anglian Water, the Combined Authority, and members of Lindum’s project team.

The academy is scheduled to be completed in November and will form an important part of the region’s drive towards carbon net zero.
