Construction of a new three-storey building in a prime location in one of the east coast’s best-known seaside resorts will begin in the coming weeks.

Lindum has been appointed by North East Lincolnshire Council to deliver the scheme at 2 Sea Road, Cleethorpes.

The scheme, on a brownfield site in the heart of the resort, will provide ground-floor retail or hospitality space alongside new public amenities, including a Changing Places facility.

The first floor will also be accessible from Pier Gardens, reinstating the historic link between the gardens and Cleethorpes Pier.

Designed to complement the character of the seafront, the building takes inspiration from Cleethorpes’ Art Deco heritage, with architectural references to nearby landmarks such as the Central Promenade retail kiosks and the former Electricity Board showroom on Isaac’s Hill.

Lindum Group Co-Chairman Freddie Chambers said the project reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to the region and its focus on working with local businesses.

“Lindum is a Lincolnshire-based company with strong links to this part of the county, and we are committed to supporting the local economy through the use of local subcontractors and suppliers wherever possible,” he said.

“We look forward to engaging with local groups and stakeholders throughout the project, including opportunities for site visits where appropriate.

“We are pleased to be working with North East Lincolnshire Council once again – previous projects together include the remodelling of the former Matthew Humberstone School, works to the Grade II listed Victoria Mill building, and upgrades at Cleethorpes Leisure Centre.”

Preparatory work is already underway on site, with cabins due to be installed and surplus material removed ahead of the main construction phase.

The Government-funded project forms part of wider investment in Cleethorpes, with the new development expected to provide modern facilities while respecting the town’s historic character.

Work is also continuing to finalise a pre-let agreement for the ground-floor hospitality space, with further announcements expected as the scheme progresses.

Councillor Philip Jackson, Leader of North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “I’m really pleased to get this project finally underway, which will bring new facilities to the resort. Securing a local company to do the work is great news, and I’m looking forward to seeing this building take shape in the coming months.”

Work is also continuing to finalise a pre-let agreement for the hospitality space, with further announcements expected in due course.
