School children are gearing up for hands-on experience of working in the construction industry during in an event at Lincolnshire Showground next week.

More than 1,500 young people are expected to attend the 20^th Lincolnshire Construction Week between Tuesday, 24^th September and Thursday, 26^th September.

The annual event is designed to introduce a new generation of talent to the industry through a variety of technical and practical challenges.

Lincoln Group Training Association (LGTA) will host the event alongside local and regional construction employers, including Lindum Group.

Employees and apprentices from across the Group will be hosting a variety of activities including mini diggers, a PPE race and a giant Jenga tower.

Children will be tasked with using the mini diggers to lift tyres onto traffic cones, a test of their precision skills and hand-eye coordination.

The PPE race will test their speed and agility, as children compete to see who can don their protective gear the fastest with a sprint finish to the end.

The third task will include a giant Jenga tower created in Lindum’s own Joinery Workshop, with help from apprentice Arran Soutor (pictured below).

Lindum Group Apprentice Manager, John Levey said: “Construction Week is always a great opportunity for young people to put their practical and cognitive skills to the test.“It not only gives them the opportunity to enjoy themselves, it exposes them to the types of careers that are available within the construction industry too.

“Being a part of the event means we can offer advice and answer any questions the kids might have about life in construction.”

Among the children attending for the first time are pupils from Lincoln’s Bishop King Primary School and St Peter at Gowts Primary School. Lindum is paying for their coaches to the event as part of the added value we are delivering for the community close to our Hermit Street housing construction project in the city.
