A new neighbourhood built on the site of a former open cast mine has been named Residential Development of the Year at the Insider South Yorkshire Property Awards.

Waverley Green, a development delivered by Lindum Group for Forge New Homes, received the accolade at the South Yorkshire Property Dinner held at Sheffield’s Crowne Plaza Royal Victoria Hotel.

The award-winning scheme forms part of the wider Waverley development in Rotherham, being masterplanned by Harworth Group. Situated at the heart of the 740-acre mixed-use community, Waverley Green comprises 32 fully electric two- and three-bedroom terraced homes designed to support low-carbon, community-focused living.

Featuring a landscaped ‘green street’, the development has been designed to encourage community interaction while promoting sustainable lifestyles. Each home benefits from a south-facing garden and residents have access to electric vehicle charging facilities.

Construction began in August 2024 and the development was completed in less than a year. The homes are located adjacent to Olive Lane, Waverley’s new Lindum-built neighbourhood centre, providing residents with easy access to shops, cafés, restaurants, a nursery, pharmacy and medical centre.

The development showcases innovative all-electric homes that help reduce operational carbon emissions while creating attractive places for people to live. Judges praised the scheme’s strong focus on sustainability, community and design quality, with a third of the homes sold before construction was completed.
