Lindum joiners gave school pupils a hands-on introduction to traditional carpentry and heritage skills at a careers event in Cleethorpes.

The team took part in the Construction and Heritage Skills Event alongside employers and training providers to showcase construction career routes, apprenticeships and opportunities to hundreds of pupils aged 13 and 14.

Lindum Joinery’s stand featured a heritage-style timber window, made in its in-house joinery workshop, alongside smaller joinery items and cordless drills.

Pupils assembled components, handled materials and learned about the traditional craftsmanship involved in heritage joinery.

Carol Heidschuster, Cleethorpes Heritage Revealed PM, said: “More schools than ever participated this year, with a waiting list showing how word is spreading about the opportunity to try hands-on construction skills.

“The students engaged with tradespeople and learned first-hand how rewarding a vocational skill can be. The event would not be possible without the support of all the contractors involved, so a big thanks to everyone who helped make it such a success.”

Councillor Samuel Grice, Portfolio Holder for Children and Education at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “As a contractor by trade, it was fantastic to see young people engaging with vocational skills through activities such as the scaffolding project, plastering and construction work.

“The event received tremendous support from local and specialist contractors, and I would particularly like to thank them for dedicating their time to inspire and provide opportunities for the next generation of local talent.”

Hayley Cowell, Lindum’s Social Value Lead, said: “Engaging with local schools and communities is an important part of what we do. Events like this help young people try new skills, ask questions and understand the range of careers available in construction.

“We received fantastic feedback from organisers and students, and we’re grateful to everyone from our joinery team who helped make the event a success.”
