Construction workers from Lindum volunteered their time to decorate a new Community Hub at The Cresset in Bretton.
The team spent a week on site, refreshing and repainting a former gym area to help prepare the space for its next chapter as an inclusive hub for people of all ages and backgrounds.
The work forms part of YMCA Trinity Group’s “DIY SOS”-style initiative, which is bringing together local trades, volunteers and businesses to help revitalise the building.
Jonathan Martin, CEO of YMCA Trinity Group, said: “Our aim for this Community Hub is to create a welcoming, inclusive space where people can connect, collaborate, and thrive. We’re incredibly grateful to organisations like Lindum who are already stepping up to help make this vision a reality.”
The Cresset, a well-known multi-purpose community venue in Peterborough, is home to a range of projects, services, and live entertainment. The new Hub will add to this offering, providing a vital resource for local people and further strengthening community connections in Bretton.
Lindum Group’s involvement comes after it completed a £3.5 million scheme to replace The Cresset’s ageing flat roof with a new pitched standing seam structure. The work has improved the building’s drainage system and helped secure the venue’s long-term future.
Managing Director Darren King said: “The Cresset is a well-loved local venue and we’re proud to play a part in ensuring it remains a thriving centre for arts and community activity for years to come.
“As a local business, we’re always keen to get involved in initiatives that make a positive difference in our community, and helping to prepare this new Hub for use is a great way to do that.”
Five people from Lindum’s Peterborough office, in Newark Road, took part in the painting and decorating project.
Darren Buckman, Head of Cresset Operations, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Lindum on these projects. The Cresset is a busy building, with a huge range of activities and customers under its roof every day, so careful planning has been essential to keep disruption to a minimum. Lindum’s understanding of the building and their willingness to get involved in our community initiatives has been invaluable.”
