Lindum Group has donated items for the garden of the new Riverhead House children’s home in Louth to help the new house feel more ‘homely’.
The donation was part of Lindum’s social value and local economic value contributions as part of the project, totalling almost £620,000.
Items donated were manufactured by local social enterprise Pelican Trust, and include picnic tables, benches, birdboxes suited to various species of bird, and a bug hotel.
Lindum recently completed the construction of the new home for Lincolnshire County Council to provide a safe environment for the county’s most at risk young people.
Steven Duckering, Lindum Group Framework Manager, visited the children’s home as part of the garden furniture donation. He said: “The new tables and benches look great installed in the garden of the new home. I’m sure they will get plenty of use in the summer when the weather hopefully improves.
“As a local contractor, we understand the importance of working to improve our local communities and supporting the development of local labour. This donation has enhanced the garden area, whilst also providing invaluable training and work experience for local people, through local social enterprise Pelican Trust, which is fantastic for the Lincolnshire area.”
The home was handed over last month as part of Lincolnshire County Council’s plans to ensure vulnerable children don’t have to go out of county for a safe place to stay. The introduction of Riverhead House to the council’s housing stock means the children can stay close to their local community and support networks.
Riverhead House is built on the site of former Pilgrim School. The home benefits from three air source heat pumps, with solar panels on the roof to reduce overall running costs and achieve net zero carbon.
Cllr Mrs Patricia Bradwell OBE, Executive Member for Children’s Services at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “We’re very grateful to Lindum for the kind donation. Riverhead House is designed to provide a homely environment for the children staying there, and this new garden furniture will help bring the outdoor areas to life.
“We really value Lindum’s contribution to the project, and I think we can all be proud of this excellent new home, which will benefit local children and young people for years to come.”
