Construction of 11 new council properties is officially under way with a ground-breaking event signalling the next step to more affordable housing to South Kesteven.

Preparation work at Wellington Way, Market Deeping, has already involved detailed designs and the granting of planning consent.

South Kesteven District Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr Virginia Moran, joined project partners Lindum and SKDC Housing managers on site to mark the start of the building phase.

There will now be around 40 weeks of construction and fit-out work.

The development comprises two one-bed apartments, four two-bed apartments and five two-bed houses built on a grassed area between industrial units and existing flats.

Cllr Moran said: “We’re pleased to be able to bring this important new development on-stream working closely with our developer partners Lindum, and Atkins Realis who will continue to manage the project.

“These homes will be assigned to those in real need, people on the SKDC Housing Register, and it’s a real privilege to be able to set the ball rolling in this part of the district.

“This one development alone will replace more than a quarter of our accommodation that is lost through Right to Buy each year so it is very welcome.

“Although it’s a substantial scheme we have worked closely with local residents and acted on their feedback which means some of the green space and resident parking spaces will be retained.”

Darren King, Managing Director of Lindum Peterborough, said: “We’re delighted to see work starting on this latest housing development for South Kesteven District Council. Lindum has built a strong and longstanding relationship with the council, and it’s always rewarding to work together on projects that deliver high-quality, sustainable homes for local people.

“Schemes like this demonstrate what can be achieved through close collaboration – from early design through to construction – and we’re pleased to be continuing our partnership with SKDC to help meet the demand for affordable housing across the district.”

Completion is due in December with the new tenants moving in shortly afterwards.

As part of the development, trees will be planted and pathways added that will link to Peacock Square. The new properties will include air source heat pumps, solar PV and infrastructure for electric vehicles.
