Lindum Group is hoping to build 20 new affordable homes in Bassingham, near Lincoln.

Plans are being drawn up for one, two and three bedroomed properties on land south of Vasey Close, on the south eastern side of the village.

If approved, some of the homes would be offered for sale on a shared ownership basis and others would be available for affordable rent.

The proposals are being prepared following a Housing Needs Survey, which was commissioned by Lindum Group and completed by Community Lincs.

Lindum Development Manager Robert Jays said: “The site has been identified as a suitable location to deliver some greatly needed new affordable homes.

“The proposed development would see the continuation of the previous housing scheme on Vasey Close. The site comprises approximately 1.8 acres of agricultural land which is currently used for arable farming.

“Whilst the land is outside of the development limits of Bassingham, it is considered acceptable for the development of an ‘all affordable’ scheme under the Exceptions Policy in the Central Lincolnshire Local Plan and is a sustainable location for residential development.”

The homes would predominantly be semi-detached with all properties having private parking spaces and individual rear gardens. The site would be accessed from the existing road on Vasey Close which itself is accessed via a simple priority T-junction from Torgate Lane.

Lindum Group has had discussions with Bassingham Parish Council about the plans and the council has indicated its support for the proposed scheme and the benefits the affordable houses would have for the local community

A public consultation event will take place at Hammond Tower, Lincoln Road in Bassingham on Monday 4th October between 4pm and 8pm.

Display boards will provide further details of the plans and the results of the survey and there will be representatives from Lindum on hand to answer any questions.

What is affordable housing?

Affordable housing provides individuals and families who aren’t able to buy or rent at market rates with an opportunity to find a place to call home. It is a key element of the Government’s plan to end the housing crisis and provide aspiring homeowners with a step onto the property ladder.

It is made available across a range of tenures including social, affordable or intermediate rent and low-cost ownership options such as Shared Ownership.

Affordable rent allows housing associations to let properties out at 80 per cent of local market rent levels to working people with household incomes of less than £66,000 (or £80,000 for larger homes)

Shared ownership is another way of helping individuals or families who couldn’t otherwise afford to buy a home outright and get onto the property ladder. It allows people to purchase a share of a home and pay rent on the remaining share.
