LACE Housing opens third new development

6th February 2020

A development of affordable housing in Nettleham designed for over 55s and built by Lindum was officially opened during a ceremony hosted by LACE Housing.

The Burrows, situated off Deepdale Lane in Nettleham, consists of 22 two-bedroom apartments for rent and 14 two-bedroom bungalows for shared ownership.

It is the last in a trio of LACE Housing developments to have been completed within the past 12 months and has been named by children from the village’s infant and junior schools.

The access road – Frith Close – has been named by Nettleham Parish Council in recognition of the service of Cllr Alf Frith within the village.

To mark the opening, the pupils unveiled a plaque alongside Cllr John Evans, Chairman of Nettleham Parish Council.

Like Brighton Place in Washingborough and Wellington View in Ingham – both of which were opened by LACE Housing in 2019 – the new homes in Nettleham are specially designed for those aged 55 and over with a connection to the area, to allow people to remain in familiar surroundings as they get older.

Nick Chambers, Chief Executive of LACE Housing, said: “By officially opening The Burrows, we have reached a significant milestone in our mission to meet the demand for homes that are both affordable and suitable for Lincolnshire’s ageing population.”

Lindum Construction began work on the £4.8m development in July 2018, after the launch of the Nettleham Parish Plan revealed a growing need for affordable accommodation for older people in the area.

Managing Director of Lindum Construction Simon Gregory said: “We’re proud to have been part of creating another scheme for over 55s in Lincolnshire, which consolidates our relationship with LACE Housing, Longhurst Group and the other development partners.

“We’re delighted to see that the final name of the scheme was chosen by local school children, who visited the site on a number of occasions during construction and were eager to learn about the location, its history and how the building work was progressing.

“The Burrows will stand as their legacy in the village in which they grew up.”

Nick added: “The success of the association is very much down to our people, partnerships and places.

“We are now exploring further development opportunities in other areas of the county and are excited to see what the future holds.”

The Burrows is surrounded by open countryside and is within easy reach of a wide range of amenities including local shops, a Post Office, public houses and the village hall, and residents have access to excellent public transport into nearby Lincoln.

It has been part-funded by Homes England through its Shared Ownership and Affordable Homes Programme, which aims to increase the supply of a wide range of housing options for older people in England by March 2022.

While some people are already setting up home in the apartments, the bungalows are being marketed by Mundys Estate Agents: mundys.net/property/sales/lincoln/frith-close-lincoln-102125018900

Representatives from Mundys are hosting an open event between 10am and 2pm this Saturday (8th February) for anyone interested in the bungalows. For more information call 01522 510044.
