Work progressing well on affordable homes on site of former dairy in Lincoln

6th February 2020

A development of affordable homes on the site of a former dairy in Lincoln is on track to be completed later this year.

Work is continuing at Ellison Place - on the former Boultham Dairy site on Boultham Park Road - to deliver the 36-home scheme.

Local construction firm Lindum Group was appointed by Longhurst Group to build the six three-bed townhouses, 12 three-bedroom semi-detached houses and 18 two-bedroom semi-detached homes.

The development is progressing well, with work hopefully being completed in time for handover in mid-2020.

Of the properties, 19 will be available on a Shared Ownership basis, where people part buy and part rent, with the remainder made available for Affordable Rent, which typically costs 20 percent less than the price of privately renting a similar sized property.

Nick Worboys, Director of Development and Sales, said she was delighted by the progress of the development.

She said: “We are all very proud of this development, which is a brilliant example of how Longhurst Group works in partnership with local authorities to respond to local need by delivering affordable housing in areas where it is most needed.

“We have recently launched our Improving Lives 2025 strategy, in which we commit to delivering more homes where they are needed most, and this development helps us to achieve that.

“Creating these affordable, high-quality homes will also help us to improve the lives of our customers, by improving their communities and providing them with a place they can call home.

“To see the development moving towards the final stages is very exciting and I can not wait to see the final results.”

We have worked closely with the City of Lincoln Council and Lincolnshire Co-Op on the project and the homes will mark the final piece of the jigsaw in the redevelopment of the former Boultham Dairy site, with a mosque and supermarket having also been built on the land.

The dairy was the main provider of dairy products for Lincoln and the surrounding area until its closure in 2012.

Nick added: “I’d like to thank the local authority and Lincolnshire Co-Op for their positivity and co-operation throughout this project.

“This affordable housing is sorely needed in the city and we are getting ever closer to seeing it come to fruition thanks to the support of Homes England and our partners Lindum, with whom we continue to enjoy a fruitful relationship.”

Ellison Place, which received grant funding from Homes England, will see us increase our provision of affordable housing in a city where, according to the National Housing Federation, the average house price is seven times that of the average annual income.

Edward Chambers, Lindum Group Board Director, said: "I am happy to see this project progressing. Once complete, it will be valuable addition to Lincoln city’s housing supply.

"The site was derelict so it’s great to see it being redeveloped, improving the local area. It has been a complicated project, with ground works taking longer than initially anticipated.

"Thankfully, Lindum Group was able to utilise its full complement of construction services, including our in-house plant and waste services to overcome the obstacles and get progress back on track."
