Lindum has completed the extensive refurbishment and amalgamation of multiple retail units at Teesside Shopping Park, paving the way for the opening of a brand-new Sports Direct megastore.

The project, carried out on behalf of Stockton Retail Park Ltd (British Land), saw the transformation of four separate units – formerly occupied by Laura Ashley, Argos, USC, and MenKind – into a single, state-of-the-art retail space.

The newly combined 40,000 sq. ft store officially opened its doors on Friday, March 21, marking an expansion for Sports Direct at the shopping complex.

The retail giant’s new unit, which is double the size of its previous store, features an “elevated” shopping experience with dedicated areas for GAME, USC, and Evans Cycles.

Lindum’s scope of work included the demolition of internal walls, existing mezzanines, and fixtures, as well as structural glazing installation, façade enhancements, and the construction of a new mezzanine floor.

The project also involved significant incoming services upgrades, refurbishment of both rear and roof cladding, and the installation of new steel personal doors and a roller-shutter entrance.

The completion of this major construction project aligns with Frasers Group’s vision of modernising its retail spaces. Lauren Barrie, Group Head of Retail at Frasers Group, added: “The new, elevated Teesside Sports Direct store will bring a modern shopping experience to the area. This opening reflects our ongoing commitment to reinvent and energise our existing store portfolio.”
