Housing provider Longhurst Group has appointed Lindum to build 36 new affordable homes on the former Welland Hospital site in Spalding.
Work on the site, accessible from Roman Bank and Holbeach Road, is anticipated to begin in the coming months, with the project estimated to be completed by next year.
The development will offer a mix of two and three bedroom homes, with 18 available for Affordable Rent and the remaining half made available for Shared Ownership.
Longhurst Group owns and manages over 23,500 homes across the Midlands and East of England. Director of Land and New Business, Charlotte Smith said: “We’re delighted to have completed the purchase of this site and to finally be at a point where we can look ahead to starting work on this exciting development.
“It’s certainly been a long journey to get to this point, particularly with the recent challenges posed by the Coronavirus outbreak. We’re now looking forward to working with Lindum Group once again and increasing the provision of affordable housing, which is sorely needed in Spalding.
“Our vision at Longhurst Group is to provide great homes, where they are needed most and this development is a fabulous example of that. We now look forward to seeing the first spade in the ground and bringing this exciting project to fruition.”
Lindum Group Construction Manager Mark Carter said Longhurst Group and Lindum Group had a proven track record of delivering successful affordable housing projects together.
“We are delighted to once again be working with Longhurst Group. We are pleased to be regenerating this site and delivering homes for local people,” he said.
“Our team has already worked very hard to ensure this scheme is viable by delivering a suitable drainage solution and we are looking forward to commencing construction on site as soon as possible.
“When building work does begin, we will be following strict new policies on social distancing and hygiene in light of the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak.”
