Lindum has helped public sector clients reduce carbon and improve communities during the first 12 months of a four-year construction framework.

Increasing thermal efficiencies of existing buildings and supporting local good causes have been key features of work completed through the SCAPE Regional Construction framework.

Since being successfully appointed to the RCf last year, Lindum has completed projects in a variety of sectors, including Education, Blue Light, Housing and Leisure. Work has involved refurbishment schemes, new build jobs and decarbonisation projects.

Specific contracts procured through the framework include the fixing of PV panels on ambulance stations, the installation of EV car charging points at tourist hot-spots and the replacement of windows to reduce heat loss from primary schools.

Lindum Group framework manager, Matt Jones, said: “We have reached the first anniversary of our appointment to the SCAPE Regional Construction framework and it’s fantastic to see the variety of work that’s been procured using this method.

“Clients like the fact it gives them a compliant route to market and allows them to easily navigate some of the ‘red tape’ that can come with procurement.

“We are really pleased to see more and more clients using the framework to commission decarbonisation work, as it shows the breadth of projects Lindum can deliver for the public sector.”

Work to install 58 PV panels and air source heat pumps at Market Rasen ambulance station helped East Midlands Ambulance Service save £3,300 a year on its fuel bills while also reducing the building’s carbon output by 3,766kg a year.

Meanwhile, upgrading roof insulation at Crabtree Farm Primary School in Nottingham (from 30mm thick to 160mm) allowed Lindum to reduce heat loss from the building, resulting in an improved U-Value (from 1.50 to 0.16 W/m²K).

The Priory Academy LSST used the framework to upgrade its campus in Lincoln. Work has included new insulated roofs, walls and windows across 3000m2 of school buildings.
Results included:
·        U-value of roofs reduced from 1.5 W/m2K to 0.18 W/m2K
·        U-value of walls reduced from 2.2 W/m2K to 0.30 W/m2K
·        U-value of windows reduced from 5.2 W/m2K to 1.2 W/m2K

As part of the tender process, successful contractors must prove they can generate enhanced social value and leave a positive legacy for local communities, whether this is through training and development such as apprenticeships, or engagement with local schools and colleges to inspire the next generation.

So far, Lindum has delivered almost £4m of additional social value to communities through work that’s been procured during the first 12 months of the SCAPE framework.
This includes the use of local labour on contracts, the use of apprentices on our building projects and supporting specific community initiatives (such as the donation of cycles to a Notts-based children’s charity and collections for local food banks).

Lindum highlights from the first year of the framework include:

  • £9.6m of work delivered, with 9/10 client satisfaction
  • Successful engagement with 17 clients across Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire with 13 of these being existing relationships.
  • Social value KPI targets exceeded, with 35% social value added and a total social and economic value of £3.8m.
  • Handover of five projects with the University of Lincoln, including the £3.1m makeover of the prestigious building, Lawress Hall.
  • Six projects delivered for East Midlands Ambulance Service including a new Unit on our Business Park in North Hykeham.
  • Supporting the great work being done by Nottinghamshire Police Youth Outreach Team and helping reduce their carbon footprint by delivering unwanted bicycles from employees to a local children’s charity.
  • Increased engagement with students at Priory Federation of Academies Trust to showcase the diverse range of careers within the construction industry, address the skills gap and attract future talent to the workforce.
